It is not uncommon to experience occasional drops in happiness or mood. Life gets busy, multiple responsibilities compete for our attention, and stress increases. Before we know it, we may be feeling low. If this sounds familiar, here are some creative ways to return to an elevated mood.
Exercise
Participating in exercise naturally boosts mood by releasing endorphins, which are the feel-good chemicals in our brain. If you're in a bad mood, get up and take a five to 10-minute walk or do another activity to get the blood pumping and improve your mood.
Nourish the body
Treat yourself to delicious foods like dark chocolate, leafy greens and other folate-rich foods, blueberries, chamomile or lavender tea, and magnesium-rich seeds like pumpkin or sunflower seeds. Nutrients in these foods are believed to be related emotional health.
Set a daily affirmation
Recognizing validation is a way to provide emotional support and encouragement to yourself (and others). A daily affirmation can also help establish a positive “mood” or purpose for the day. Look for inspiration in books, quotes, song lyrics, poems, or spiritual verses. Write down the affirmation and post it where you can read it and be reminded of the focus of the day.
Meditate
Meditating – even if it only takes five minutes – has been shown to work Reduce stress and improve a person's perspective. Find a quiet place, close your eyes, focus on your breathing, and clear yourself of the noise of the day. When you meditate, you can go within and reflect while finding peace and affirming your purpose.
Practice gratitude
Start or end your day by recording three things you are grateful for. When a bad mood or spirit arises, use this exercise to reframe your thinking and focus energy on the positive. If you look at the positive aspects of life, it is possible change the thought pattern This leads to a happier outlook on life in general.
Pull out the plug
There is drama on social media, in pop culture, and in the news, and it is easy to get caught up in the deluge of unpleasant aspects of the modern world. If there is too much negativity pulsating in your news feed, turn it off, walk away and read a book, or just sit quietly. Take it a step further and leave your phone behind when you take microbreaks throughout the day. Scrolling through social media is not a mental break. Rather, it acts as a stimulant and can cause additional stress.
Appeal to the scents
The sense of smell is powerful and closely linked to mood and memory. Try filling your space with your favorite scents like jasmine, chamomile, vanilla, citrus, peppermint, and lavender.
Go out
A deficiency of vitamin D, sometimes called the sunshine vitamin, has been linked Depression and anxiety. If possible, take a break outside and enjoy the sunshine. Alternatively, you can use a sunlamp or light therapy to combat symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Light therapy can be particularly useful for people who work most of the day.
