iFBB Pro Lacey Pruitt is a three-time cancer survivor
Lacey Pruitt earned her IFBB Pro card in 2018 by winning the women's light heavyweight bodybuilding title at that year's NPC Nationals. While many hope for the title of NPC National Champion, she has another one that is more meaningful – cancer survivor. Pruitt told Alina Popa and Whitney Jones on a recent episode of Femme Flex Friday that she beat colon cancer not once, not twice, but three times. Her first diagnosis came in 2016 after a competition. She explained how she was able to overcome these adversities.
"So what we did was I had to do oral chemo called Xeloda, and I also had resection surgery," Pruitt revealed. “I was cancer-free for the first time in December 2016.”
Less than a year later, Pruitt faced what was known as a recurrence, but this time it was Stage 3b, making it an even more serious situation.
“It spread to my abdominal cavity and surrounding lymph nodes,” she recalled. "That time was extremely tough and I had to do eight rounds of chemo. I've had a total of three surgeries so far."
Since each of these rounds lasted up to 20 hours, Lacey Pruitt was victorious against cancer for a second time. Less than a year later, she won a competition and earned her pro card at Nationals. However, she would face another battle because a doctor's visit in 2020 revealed more cancer cells. While it's never easy to hear a diagnosis like that, Pruitt was confident she could do it a third time because she'd beaten it twice, and she did. Although the road she faced was tough, she was even tougher, and she hopes to show others through her example that with the right attitude, they can overcome anything.
“That’s what I try to teach others to this day: No matter what you go through in life, you have to smile through it and know that everything will be okay.”
Pruitt's story is sure to inspire many people, and this is an episode of FFF you won't want to miss. You can watch this one and every episode over at www.wingsoftstrength.net. New episodes are released every Friday at 6:00 PM Eastern Time
