Traditionally, sports and leisure clothing doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to environmental friendliness. Spandex, polyester and nylon are synthetic fabrics made from petroleum, releasing large amounts of carbon emissions into the atmosphere and threatening our natural habitat. So, enter Tentree; a clothing line that prides itself on working with sustainable materials without compromising on comfort. It's a win-win for you and this amazing planet we call home, but is this equipment up to the task?

With consumers more interested than ever in where their clothing is sourced and manufactured and the impact these materials have on our earth, it's no wonder that Nike, Adidas and most of the world's major brands have announced strategies to reduce their carbon footprints and slow plastic production recently. Tentree says planting trees is one of the best ways to improve our future prospects, and they've also put their money where their mouth is by planting nearly 80 million of the sticky green things in just 10 years. The retailer says it plants 10 trees for every item it sells and is refreshingly transparent about the process (Tentree – Impact Wallet). The company reports that it has reforested a total of 944,88,952 square feet of land (and counting) since the start of its mission.

At the heart of tentree's ethos is the desire to ensure that its clothing is produced with the smallest environmental footprint, using ethical manufacturing processes, all in a safe working environment. That's pretty cool, but how comfortable can Tentree's clothes really be? Well, tentree uses REPREVE, a form of recycled polyester made from plastic bottles. REPRIEVE is a quality solution for producing eco-friendly textiles and is also used by top brands such as GUESS, O’Neill, Patagonia and Speedo. It's ideal for comfort, moisture wicking and cooling, and these things are exactly what you want from sportswear. Another key to Tentree products is TENCEL; a fabric made from the fibers of pulp, no less. Additionally, hemp and organic cotton are added to the mix, but What do customers say? "Everything is both robustly constructed and exceptionally soft," says one Tentree reviewer on Trustpilot, while another commented: "I ordered 3 tops and they are all beautiful, fit well and are super cozy. And knowing that I'm also contributing to such a great cause makes this purchase just perfect!"

So by taking more responsibility for what you wear during your workouts, it really is possible to protect the planet one rep at a time. Luckily, Tentree has a decent one Selection of shirts, sweatpants and hoodies for men and women and their sizes are also suitable for taller people. There's also a wide range of color combinations to choose from, so sustainability doesn't have to be old-fashioned when it comes to fashion. Whether it's achieving your fitness goals or saving the planet, we can all agree that big changes start with small steps.
