8 lessons by Arnold Schwarzenegger, which they bring on the road to success

"I never believed that I am average, and that alone is a big reason why I wasn't." -Arnold Schwarzenegger

Very few of us ever feel like we are accomplishing most of our goals. And whether we want to admit it, life is a game of trial and error. So it's easy to get caught up in the mistakes and get frustrated with the attempts.

However, when you learn from those who have achieved repeated, timeless successes, their thinking usually leaves clues about how they were able to apply different rules to the same game.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the ultimate example of someone who has created opportunities all his life. And while nobody has to repeat his way, the way he encounters situations, obstacles and challenges is a master class in a mental championship.

"No matter what, I had to prove to myself that I was exceptional. There is no normal," Schwarzenegger shared an exclusive interview for the Director.

The spirit is a mighty thing, and Schwarzenegger has used an unbreakable way of thinking to create a competitive advantage over the universe. As someone who did not start with his immigration to the United States, his belief in himself apparently had the world bend his will - and not the other way around.

"Always consider yourself something special. And think:" I will prove to myself and the rest of the world that I can do that. "

Even at the age of 72, the bodybuilder, who has become an actor, the governor and the activist, believes that he can achieve even more - and this is probably the main reason why he continues to add new successes to his resume.

Here are 8 lessons I took away from my interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Don't think about difficulties

"It is an advantage to do things automatically," says Schwarzenegger. "I have a routine where you don't have to think much - if at all. [Routines] are the foundation of a house."

Schwarzenegger has built up his life on habits and routines that have made him a nature of habit and efficiency.

Whether it is his training-Delts and arms in one day, chest and back and calves on another day, abdominal muscles every day and an additional 30 minutes cardiovascular training at night-or receiving emails and catching up for messages, Arnold has expectations.

"Add as many of these routine things as you can because you do them without ever thinking about them. This is your daily plan. Like breathing."

While this isn't earth-shattering, his approach to creating habits isn't what you expect.

While you might consider certain habits difficult to develop, this is the first step to ensuring that making changes becomes harder.

"People should see that I have no understanding of 'difficult'. There are many things in life that are difficult," added Schwarzenegger.

"If you want to create routines, you have to change your expectations. If you will resign every time something is difficult? Or will you be the person who looks at something that is difficult - or thatmostdifficult – and say: “I will do it and prove it to myself.” This is how you build habits. “

"I shouldn't ask or shouldn't do it. You just do it."

Make things automatically

Part of Arnold's legendary focus is a by -product of his routines. However, it is just as important to know what is defined in life - and when you have to invest additional time, energy and creativity in lifenot routinelyAspects of your day.

To help you understand the importance of automated experiences, Arnold shared his experiences in politics.

"When I was governor, I had fixed appropriations for what you could spend on certain programs like education. It's a fixed expense. The same goes for health care and prisons."

"I only had 8 percent of the discretion. There is very little scope. But if you know what is automatic and what is not, you can concentrate better," says Arnold.

And that’s how it should be in your everyday life. He recommends creating as many solid moments in your day as possible. Then you have fewer aspects where you have to dig deep, be creative and develop custom solutions.

You may see this as a limitation, but Arnold sees it as an advantage. Less variation means more focus. And the more you can focus on fewer things, the more likely you are to have a greater impact.

Establishment is worth.

I asked Arnold about something that most people don't know about him, and he shared his love for art and painting. But I didn't notice that (although I was impressed by his painting). So he thinks about his time he spent to create art for others.

"Today it is easy to go to a shop and buy a gift or go to the flower shop and get flowers. In the past you picked flowers and put in a vase. They are all flowers. But my mother was in heaven that we tried to go out and make the gift."

Arnold understands that output is not the only yardstick for success. Your efforts are also an important part of the equation.

"You have to try to strain with everything you are doing, especially when it comes to things for others. If you find ceramics and color on it, you know that you have spent hours with it. It makes a difference. It takes effort and people really like that."

Be unconventional

According to Arnold, more than 50 years ago no one exercised in the morning. The gyms didn't open until 10 a.m., so the entire structure of the day was based on rules that, as it turned out, didn't exist for good reason.

Arnold collapsed how people believed that they were weaker in the morning. It was only when he lived with his idol Reg Park that he started crashing £ 500 at 5:30 a.m. and his entire training plan was adjusted.

The shift helped him to remove restrictive beliefs over his body, which in turn helped him understand that most restrictions are thought of. This even led to some Unreal 3 p.m. workouts as an actor.

"If you think you can't do anything, you won't do it. But if you try to do something else, you will be surprised at how much what you thought was a restriction was not real."

Goals are not enough. Have a vision...

"Arnold, you slept 16 hours. With this non-invasive process, something went wrong ... they had inner bleeding, and so that they did not die, we had to open them."

In the powerful moment of our discussion, Arnold told how his "routine" heart surgery took an unexpected turn and he was faced with a difficult comeback before filming the latest Terminator film.

When he woke up after 16 hours, his immediate reaction wasn't what you might think.

"Wait a minute, in three and a half months I should be in Budapest to shoot Terminator 6. But you say it takes 6 months to recover."

While it may seem like Arnold wasn't thinking about the bigger picture and overall health, it was actually the opposite. He imagined where he needed to be to get better.

"I'm always looking for motivation. If you don't have motivation, it's hard to get started in these circumstances. You're down and you have a big setback. And vision can bring you back."

"If you don't have a goal, you have nothing. You need to know where you have to go. You need a vision."

…But focus on small wins

Once you have your vision, you need to enter the reps or mileage. That's exactly what Arnold, considered by many to be the greatest bodybuilder of all time, had to do to recover from heart surgery.

I asked the doctors: 'When can I get up? ‘And the doctor says 3 to 4 days. People don't die from the procedure; They die from pneumonia and lungs that fill with liquid, ”recalls Arnold.

"I'll be up tomorrow and I'll walk. Get me a walker. And that's what I did. I went for a walk, lay back down, rested and then got up again. I was a fanatic. I built up to 2 hour walks. Then I swapped the walker for a cane."

He was out of the hospital within 6 days. Just 3 weeks later he was training with light weights. And as he promised, he was on set for Terminator 6 three and a half months later.

"The director said, 'I can't believe you had open-heart surgery three and a half months ago,'" Schwarzenegger says.

“We all have setbacks, but if you have a very clear vision and a clear goal, then if you put in the reps you can come back.”

Find your “on switch”

Despite his success, Arnold is not immune to downtime or aging. But it is his ability to adapt and be self-aware that allows him to continue to thrive.

"When I was 50 years old, I realized that after 2 hours of sleep I couldn't get back at 2 a.m. to film. So I said:" I will never sleep again at night when I film. " But I needed something to give myself a spark.

That spark was chess.

"The more chess I played, the more alert I was and was able to come to set fully charged because my mind was ready from all that chess. I remembered the lines 100% and the physical work felt 100%."

"You have to find out what is important. If you have a setback or feel sluggish or mentally tired, you have to find a way to recharge yourself."

Busy is fine. There is no distraction.

In the 1970s, Arnold was overwhelmed by bodybuilding, acting, real estate buying and building construction.

"Many things came together at the same time. I was overloaded," recalls Schwarzenegger.

At that time, Arnold turned to meditation, about which he has spoken in the past. For a year he meditated 20 minutes in the morning and another 20 minutes at night. While a lot of meditation for their ability to calm down and undressing, found an invaluable advantage, which still helps him today.

"[After Meditating] Suddenly I was able to concentrate on one thing. I could do real estate and not think of bodybuilding. When I was training, I didn't think of acting. I was very concentrated and learned to concentrate, and it did better with everything I did.

"When I know how I can concentrate on one thing, I got better with everything I did."

Conclusion

Whatever you take away from Arnold, the foundation of his thinking is rooted in something we can all possess:Trust. And it is this confidence that Arnold has made it possible to take risks and drive himself up that nobody could have imagined - unless perhaps.

"Provide it [The World] that there are extraordinary things that can happen because you can do it."
