When you see a set of six pack abs, it's easy to assume that they are made up of six individual muscles, but this is actually a misconception. Just because your abs are a single muscle and not six different ones doesn't mean stomach exercises aren't a great way to get six pack abs. As you increase the size and strength of your rectus abdominis, the muscle segments of a six pack abs become better defined and highlighted. Exercises like incline crunches, weighted crunches, and leg raises are all good for strengthening your abdominal muscles. However, if you want six-pack abs, strengthening and enlarging your abs is only half the story - after all, everyone has a rectus abdominis and the tendon-like fibers running over it, and many people also have relatively strong abdominal muscles. but very few have well-defined six pack abs.

There are two main reasons for this, one of which is genetic. Some lucky people have naturally well-defined abs because of the structure of their abs - they're lucky and there's not much you can do to change that. However, the more important factor is the body fat that covers most people's abdominal muscles. If you can reduce the layer of fat around your stomach, you are far more likely to get great six pack abs. This is the realm of receiving Six pack Abs that most people neglect - they do all the exercises in the gym but don't realize that without reducing their body fat, abs will never shine through.

Additionally, you can't just target the fat around your midsection through exercise - fat is burned by your body as a whole. So if you're serious about reducing the fat around your abs, you need to eat right and do plenty of cardiovascular exercise.
