El Guindy shared that this rivalry started at a 2021 show in Tijuana, Mexico, where Sommerfeld got the best of “The Golden Bear.” This led fans and pundits to believe that the same thing would happen at the Olympics this year, but that wasn't the case.

"Urs Kalecinski impressed everyone and got into the top five. Mike Sommerfeld crashed (to seventh place). All Mike heard in Germany was how great Urs was."

Sommerfeld was in the top five at the Olympics in 2022 along with Kalecinski, and El Guindy believes the rivalry is even more real now. Cormier shared that he spoke to both men and had kind words for both champions.

“I think the biggest potential is with Urs, but the maturity is with Mike, and he’s probably a little bit stronger,” The Real Deal said. Wilkins acknowledged Kalecinski's following on social media as well as his fan base's presence when he competes on stage.

“When he was at Olympia last year, his popularity was just as popular as C-Bum (Chris Bumstead),” he told El Guindy, who reminded the other hosts that their careers go beyond the stage. Her influence on the internet also makes a big difference in her career. Sommerfeld's contributions of positive comparisons to Kalecinski were another important part of this very real rivalry.

"Apparently he sent Urs a message: 'Hey, I'm better than you.'"

The next time we can see this rivalry in real life is at the 2023 Classic Physique Olympia in Orlando, Florida, November 2-5. Tickets are available at www.mrolympia.com.
