Bailey Bass was 12 years old when she pretended for Avatar: The Way of the Water, the highly expected second part of the film series, who came to cinemas in 2009. She didn't think much about taking on her role as Tsireya. Back then a young Na’vi from the Metkayina clan. "They said there is an audition for Avatar and you just go there," she says Shape Over Zoom.

The now 19-year-old bass describes itself as a "independent" and "much brutal honestly" than it was when she was involved in the huge project for the first time. It is something that she attributes to her "apologetically unemployed family" and in particular "dances as if nobody was watching". "I'm New Yorker," she explains. "I don't tend to hold back when I have something to say."

Around the age of 13, Bass Parkour (also known as jumping, running and climbing over obstacles from point A to point B) and trained in the gym for the physically exhausting film. “This is [a time] If you feel very uncomfortable with your body, "she notes." And I am put into a room with the rest of the line -up, all of whom are teenagers who don't care whether they break their arm through a somersault. "

However, the "most nerve -wracking" part of the training for bass was initially the free diving, in which one floats in deep waters without a breath (icymi, a large part of the film was shot under water). "In the beginning it was my unpopular thing in training," she explains. "And in the end I surpassed myself more than most actors, which I say friendly and proudly because I was so nervous, needed forever to put on a wetsuit, so far from body, until then the end of filming, be your favorite activity, shows enormous growth," she says.

There is this uncompromising honesty that bass is so proud of. Read more about your unfiltered thoughts in advance about how to play in one of the biggest film franchises of all time and simply navigate through puberty like the rest of your peers.

When he went to the Avatar, Bass' background with swimming was "not present". In fact, her mother brought her to a local swimming center for three lessons in a week to prepare her for the process that would include swimming, watering and keeping air. At the audition, bass was the only girl in her group. "I think that really challenged me because I had to keep up with them [The Boys]," she says. "I didn't want to give in."

After getting the role, she dipped into the training. In addition to parkour and gym, bass and their castmates were certified in open diving and device diving. They even learned sign language to communicate under water.

With a background in rhythmic gymnastics, ballet and dance, it was a matter of course for the actress to move under water. "In retrospect, it became clear to me that even while swimming I was always in the back of the head, as I show with my toes," she explains. And if you wonder, your record for stopping the breath under water for the film was six and a half minutes.

Regardless of whether it enters the character or not, considering bass, to train holistically. "I only want to implement fitness to prevent anxiety and [Keep] my digestive system as much as possible," she says, adding that it is naturally competitive.

"My mother was a D1 athlete [in tennis]," explains Bass. "That paid for her scholarships ... she comes from Belarus and she brought it to this country. That contributed to creating me," she continues. "And that's why I grew up in a competitive family."

She is a fan of endurance training and usually completes workouts with highly intensive interval training (HIIT). Your goal? "I want to be really good," says the interview with the vampire star.

"I think endurance is the biggest test for the mind," she explains. "Yes, I can do weight lifting, I can do all of these things. And yes, it can be spirit about matter. But to keep your body in motion, if he wants to say no, a lot of discipline needs a lot of discipline and I love to do that.

If she is not doing HIIT training or gets involved in her running goals, you may find bass on a hike in the west coast sun. "I love hiking," she says. "Turning in California, being beach in Manhattan, being exposed to all this nature, it was so refreshing for me [Compared to] grew up in the city [New York]." The outdoor activity is so much fun that she went to Arizona for her 18th birthday, which is known for his mountainous landscape.

She is also quite looking for thrills. "I want to jump out of a plane," explains Bass. "I want to go hiking at 100 degrees ... I'm an adrenaline junkie to the utmost."

Bass clearly knows how to reach her limits and try new things, but she also learns what gives her a good feeling when she has to fight with her mental health. "I hear worship music, which matches my belief, returns to my roots, returns to my destination [is and] why I am here," she says. "I listen to my playlist and everything will be wiped out within 5 minutes."

Taking care of yourself also means taking care of your skin. "Skin care is something like number one," says Bass. "I love reading about science. I read the ingredients. I can talk about skin care all day." Her favorite products come from the Rodan and Fields line, although she is probably interested in the fact that her mother sells the brand's products.

Bass is also successful in cleaning your skin with a red light device, but it quickly indicates that there is nothing wrong with acne. "It is natural, it is so natural, and literally almost everyone has it, and yet it is avoided so much."

In addition, the young actress has a strong support system that helps her with the challenges of life. "I was blessed with a team of strong women," says Bass and calls her mother, publicist, agent and acting trainer. "They always tell me that I should be consistent myself all the time," she continues.

"Women sometimes want to close because we have to be put in a drawer, so we have to speak in a certain way," she explains. "You [my support system] kept telling me that I shouldn't do it and really own myself." Hence their talent to keep it real.

In contrast to many of her colleagues from Generation Z, BASS has no TikTok. "I only have Instagram because this is part of my protection of my mental health," explains the 19-year-old. "Creating content is so important to me and I want it to be a safe place. I don't want to sacrifice my mental health either, and that's why I have to create this distance."

Bass has worked hard to create a safe space online through the cooking videos that she creates for her virtual fan base. "I love cooking," she says, clearly beaming when the topic appears. "I become this person who, when I eat in a restaurant and eat something, I think I can do it better."

Since she knew she wanted to make people happy while she told her career and got better in the kitchen, creating cooking videos was a natural component of bass' social media presence. The actress started baking (it is her dream to be the mother who one day bakes the best cookies for her children) and soon found cooking.

Her favorite dishes include tomato soup and vegan pasta. "I am the vegan woman who loves meat," she says, pretending how good her vegan pasta tastes with asparagus and Beyond Meat. "Eating is something, no matter what language you speak, it connects us all," she continues.

Another thing that apparently connects everyone? Reality TV. "I love watching reality TV with my mother and brothers," she says. "This is something that I return to my roots when I come home. I'm looking forward to that." They adhere to the classics, including MTVs The Challenge and Bravos Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. "I'm really invested."

So, yes, bass started her acting career by casually getting a role in an Avatar film, but like most people of her age, she enjoys the basics. As she puts it: "Two of my favorite things are eating and sleeping."
