It's 2022 and film industry executives are still asking women to lose weight for roles. Bryce Dallas Howard is the latest celebrity to share her experience of being asked to change her figure before filming a movie - an action film that requires no less physically demanding stunts. She spoke about the unfortunately unsurprising incident in a new interview with Metro.

“[I’ve] been asked not to use my natural body in the movies,” said Dallas Howard, who plays Claire Dearing in Jurassic World Dominion, the final installment in the Jurassic film series, premiering in June 2022. Even though her role involves dodging literal dinosaurs, she still asked to make her body smaller before filming began, but working with a cast of so many women and a supportive director helped her ignore such requests, she revealed.

"On the third movie, it was actually because so many women were cast, it was something that Colin [Trevorrow] felt very important to me about protecting myself... because the conversation came up again, 'we have to ask Bryce to lose weight,'" she explained. [Trevorrow] was like, 'There are a lot of different kinds of women on this planet and there are a lot of different kinds of women in our movie,'" Dallas Howard added.

While it seems like a no-brainer to reflect what real people look like on screen and on stage and allow actors to show themselves as they are, that doesn't always happen. Time and time again, the entertainment industry focuses on portraying unrealistic, idealized beauty and body standards without considering the impact that may have on actors or audiences. But more and more celebrities are speaking out about the pervasive problem.

Bethenny Frankel isn't interested in working out or dieting

For example, Queen Latifah will not participate in unhealthy weight loss measures for a job, she said in an interview with People in May 2022. The theater environment, she told Vogue. And after spending most of her life in the spotlight, Melanie Lynskey is just "tired" of hearing about her body, whether positive or not, she shared with InStyle.

Luckily, Dallas Howard was able to film her latest blockbuster without altering her body. Aside from how it likely affected her mental health, not focusing on weight loss actually helped the actress look her best.

"I had to do so many stunts that wouldn't have been possible on a diet," she told Metro. "So I'm really excited [at] all the action that I got to do and I got to do it with my body... I hope it's just another indication of what's possible," Dallas Howard added.

Overall, the fact that her weight was even a point of discussion during filming of the latest Jurassic movie is disappointing. However, it's promising to hear Dallas Howard speak openly about her experiences and prove that no diet has had a positive effect on her performance. Now can everyone please stop asking actors to lose weight to work?
