Stone used to view cosmetic surgery as a "nice luxury," she told the magazine. But after a "massive stroke and a nine-day brain hemorrhage" that changed. She had to have more than 300 injections of Botox and fillers to lift one side of her face after the stroke. Since then, she has viewed such aesthetic procedures as a “painful neurological need.”

ICYDK, a stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from receiving the oxygen and nutrients it needs, according to the Mayo Clinic. One symptom of a stroke is facial paralysis (also known as facial droop), which is caused when nerves that control facial muscles are damaged in the brain and typically affects only half of the face.

Avoiding Botox and fillers may have cost the actress some relationships, but she doesn't mind it, she explained in the recent interview, noting that a partner once suggested she get the procedure. “I saw him again after that and then he was no longer interested in seeing me,” she said, adding, “If you no longer see me, please find your way to the exit.”

At 64, Stone seems confident and comfortable just the way she is. “I feel like this is the most exciting and creative time of my life,” she told Vogue Arabia. "I feel really, really happy. I've never been so happy."

That joy is palpable on the Basic Instinct actress' Instagram, where she shared a photo of herself wearing just a pair of bikini bottoms and a towel earlier this summer. “Gratefully imperfect on a perfect day,” she wrote in the caption.

"I posted it because I feel like women become invisible when we become mothers and you're 45 and people walk past you like you're not there," she said in the recent interview about the headline-making Instagram photo. It's clear that Stone is still here and isn't afraid to show it.
