Jane Fonda just received the “best birthday present ever.”

After several rounds of chemotherapy to treat non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Fonda's cancer is in remission ahead of her 85th birthday on December 21st.

“I feel so blessed, so lucky,” she wrote in a blog post on her website. "I thank everyone who prayed and sent me good thoughts. I am confident that this played a role in the good news," Fonda continued.

While the first four rounds of chemotherapy were "pretty easy" for the actress, the final session was "tough," she explained. Now she can focus again on her work as a climate activist, which she often describes on her website and on Instagram.

Fonda first announced her cancer diagnosis on Instagram in early September 2022. She had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system. It is “very treatable” and has a high survival rate, Fonda previously wrote on Instagram.

The Grace and Frankie star didn't seem to let chemotherapy slow her down. Just weeks after announcing her diagnosis, Fonda shared a YouTube clip of her workout, noting that her doctor recommended exercise to combat fatigue caused by her chemo treatment.

“I have to tell you that I feel stronger than I have in years,” Fonda wrote in a blog post at the time. Along with a video of her doing wall squats with a stability ball and dumbbells, Fonda noted that she had gone to move her body.

Fonda has long been open about her belief in the importance of staying strong as she ages. "I know better than I did when I was younger that exercising age-appropriately is absolutely critical to a healthy life, no matter how old you are or who you are or where you are," she told Vogue in August 2022.

Shortly before her 85th birthday, the fitness icon is not afraid of getting older. “Turning 85 is no different than turning 84 or 86,” the actress said in a recent interview with InStyle. "But once you're inside, rather than looking at it from the outside, it's not as scary."
