Jennifer Aniston shared her spray tan mistake in a hilarious video
Jennifer Aniston may be known for her signature sun-kissed glow, but even she isn't immune to a spray tan mishap. The actress recently shared a funny behind-the-scenes look at what happened when she forgot to apply enough cream before a fake tanning session in a recent Instagram post. And it's almost as funny that Ross's unforgettable spray tan from Season 10 of Friends fails.
Sharing some photos and videos from her time filming the third season of The Morning Show, Aniston posted a clip of herself in a robe with her foot in a sink while a pal scrubs off the orange remnants of her fake tan.
Jennifer Coolidge had an allergic reaction to a spray tan - here's how it can happen
"Note to self, you need to put lotion on your hands and feet before a spray tan or else... a situation," she told her followers, showing off her orange hands. "That's love," Aniston joked, referring to the kind person who washes her feet.
Luckily, it's pretty easy to avoid a fake tan mishap, whether you head to the spray booth or use a tanning lotion, two pros tell Shape. Aniston's first mistake, she discovered, was not moisturizing before her spray tanning session, says tanning expert Jordan Cook. "Moisture is the key to a flawless tan—before and after," she shares.
How do you properly prepare for a fake tan? "Before you tan, wet everything and then give your skin about two hours to soak everything in," says Cook. "Moisturizing right beforehand could dilute the tanning product, so waiting a little while will prevent this from happening."
The best way to apply self tanner based on your skin tone
Pay special attention to "hands, feet, knees, elbows, and any other super-dry areas where you don't want the tan to stick," adds celebrity makeup artist and tanning expert Tarryn Feldman.
There are other methods to ensure a smooth, patch-free tan, says Feldman. "The best way to prepare skin for a tan is to shave and exfoliate - this is the key to an even tan," she explains. Feldman loves the St. Moriz Advanced Pro Exfoliating Skin Primer, noting that it "smoothes and smoothes the surface of the skin for the perfect application and results."
Fake tan lovers should be particularly consistent with their daily moisturizer, which will also help set the tan and keep it looking fresher for longer, adds Cook. "Apply your favorite oil-free moisturizer all over your body every day to keep your tan glowing," she advises. "Oil-free is a must because oil breaks down tanning ingredients. You can't over-moisturize, so don't be afraid to keep giving your skin a drink."

These tips apply regardless of your skin type, tone or texture, or your preferred tanning method, according to Cook and Feldman. If you're a fan of at-home tanning lotion, Feldman recommends the ultra-moisturizing St. Moriz Professional Instant Medium Self Tanning Lotion, which "can be used as your daily body lotion," she says. This gradual tanner provides a natural-looking glow and is "infused with aloe vera and vitamin E, leaving skin feeling super soft while building a beautiful daily tan," adds Feldman.
As for Aniston, we hope she was able to sort out her spray tan "situation" in time for the cameras to roll.
