Lawrence begrüßte ihr erstes Kind im Februar 2022 mit Ehemann Cooke Maroney, einem Kunstgaleristen. Zuvor wurde sie Anfang 20 schwanger und plante eine Abtreibung, berichtet Vogue. Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she had two miscarriages before giving birth to her son

Jennifer Lawrence opened up about multiple miscarriages before giving birth to her first child, a boy named Cy, in her cover interview for Vogue's October issue.

Lawrence welcomed her first child in February 2022 with husband Cooke Maroney, an art gallery owner. She previously became pregnant in her early 20s and planned to have an abortion, reports Vogue. However, something happened before she could. “I had a miscarriage alone in Montreal,” she told the magazine.

Years later, while filming Don't Look Up, she became pregnant again. This time she was married and wanted to have a baby, but she had another miscarriage. It required dilation and curettage (D&C), a surgical procedure that removes tissue from inside the uterus.

6 medical reasons for an abortion

"I remember thinking about this a million times during my pregnancy. I thought about the things that were happening to my body. And I had a great pregnancy. I had a very happy pregnancy. But every single second of my life was different. And then sometimes it occurred to me: What if I was forced to do this?" said Lawrence, who died just days after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, which upheld the constitutional right to who had protected abortion since 1973, spoke to Vogue.

Lawrence is not alone in her experience. According to the Mayo Clinic, about 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, which is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks. However, this number is likely higher because many miscarriages happen early in pregnancy, sometimes before a person knows they are pregnant. It's rare, but about one percent of women have recurrent (two or more) miscarriages, reports the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

She's also not the only celebrity to share her miscarriage experiences. Sharon Stone revealed that she had nine miscarriages on Instagram in June 2022. Megan Markle, Chrissy Teigen, Michelle Branch, Shawn Johnson and Peloton trainer Kirsten Ferguson have also spoken publicly after their miscarriages in the past. This is even more important considering that the majority of people think miscarriages are less common than they actually are, and knowing that others have had the same experience can help some people feel less alone.

While it was probably difficult for Lawrence to open up about her miscarriages, hopefully others will feel reassured to share their own stories and seek support when they need it.
