According to Kate Hudson, the telltale sign of a good collagen supplement powder is that it clumps when mixed. “If you want your skin to plump, your collagen has to clump,” she jokes while talking about her plant-based line of beauty and wellness powders INBLOOM for the “Survive The Season” campaign. “That’s why you need a whisk.” Sure, you can get your nutrients through the foods you eat, but many people struggle with this, Hudson points out.

“That’s why you need a whisk.”

Sure, you can get your nutrients through the foods you eat, but many people struggle with this, Hudson points out. That's one of the reasons she founded INBLOOM. "I use them all every day. And I incorporate them differently depending on how I'm feeling," she says of her brand's products, which are all 30 percent off through November 30, BTW.

Taking Essential Elements (a blend of vitamins, minerals, and vegetables) is a daily non-negotiable for Hudson. She also raves about another formula called Brain Flow, which contains the adaptogens ginkgo, ashwagandha, and lion's mane. “You can actually feel the transformation,” she says. “It literally wakes up your brain and you can feel the clarity,” she continues, noting that it works differently than caffeine.

Still, Beauty Aura, a marine collagen complex, is the product that seems to excite Hudson the most. "If you're taking collagen, it's really good to either combine it with vitamin C or take something that already has that [vitamin C] there for you," she says, explaining how collagen works best when formulated with an ingredient that allows it to be better absorbed by the body.

She speaks with precision as she outlines how each formula works. “I'm really passionate about this stuff,” she says, and it's clear that she is.

Of course, taking supplements is only a fraction of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle. Ahead, Hudson shares how she incorporates exercise, rest, and even a few wellness trends into her pre-holiday routine.

Realistic recovery

“That’s not happening this year,” Hudson says when asked how she plans to make time for herself during the holidays. In the midst of press events for her upcoming film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, there isn't time for much else.

“I think this year is just, hang in there and see what happens,” she says. “I told the kids, I’m like, ‘You’ll probably each get a gift,’” Hudson says with a laugh. And the Thanksgiving pies? That won't be available this year either, jokes the mother of three.

“So chaos will be my Christmas,” she admits. “But embracing that and… just not feeling the pressure of having to be everything to everyone and just enjoying the time that I have.”

Movement as a luxury

Despite her busy schedule, Hudson still makes time for exercise. That means she squeezes in training classes when she can. She's a fan of Barry's ("it's so efficient"), SLT (a Pilates-inspired workout on a Megaformer), the Tracy Anderson Method, and a Pilates studio in London called Heartcore. When she's home, she enjoys a quick workout on her Tonal machine.

“And I still pole dance,” Hudson says. “For me, it's like the strongest body, and I enjoy that because I can just make music and dance.” The exercise method helps her feel powerful. “When I feel really strong, I usually do more tricks [on the pole].”

Make no mistake, she will continue to make time for exercise this year during her annual vacation to Aspen, Colorado. “I'm very active, so I hike all the time,” she says, adding that she also enjoys snow hiking and cross-country skiing.

“When people ask, ‘What’s your best day?’ It always involves something active because I actually have time to enjoy it,” Hudson explains. "I have to move...Sitting on my ass is not a luxury for me. Sitting on my ass for me is getting rid of my ass," she says. "And I think it's a privilege to be able to live and feel strong and healthy. And so I never want to take that for granted."

Beyond trends

Hudson knows how to incorporate exercise and exercise into her routine in a way that works for her. That's probably why she has trouble naming a "new" wellness trend she recently tried. However, she can remember something she's done for a long time that feels pretty vivid right now: cold dipping.

"I've been cold and in the sauna for so long and the new big thing is cold diving and I'm like, guys, where have you been?" she says and giggles. “This has been happening for a long time.”

Lizzo is the latest celebrity to try a cold plunge

However, there's one trendy beauty product that even Hudson can't resist. "I'm obsessed with this lip mask that I think everyone is obsessed with right now," she says. Of course, she's talking about Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask, which comes in a cute little pink tub and has tons of fans, including a few other celebrities.

In fact, she pulls a tiny pink jar out of her purse and immediately applies its contents to her lips to prove that A) she really is a fan; B) The mask immediately moisturizes the lips. “This is the best,” she says. “It’s always in my bag.”
